MytHs!! BLeAhz.. HopE yoU are EnliGhtEned !

YoZ BlogFanZ! Cant really blog about today coz I need to study for econs and I'll be out for quite some time.... so I'll blog now first!

This is another excerpt from the mini-book I wrote from my friend:

Beauty Myths

Myth No. 1

Soap is bad for the skin:
Answer - Depends

You must understand the type of soap that the body uses first.
1) Facial Soap - Should be the mildest and contain the highest moisturizer as stronger soap can damage your skin and in some cases worsen the acne situation
2) Body Soap - Should generally be efficient enough to cleanse the grease and dirt from a long day of sport. The back area however, in certain instances, require formulated soap as they are very prone to being plagued with acne.
Remember, clean skin is always better then dirty skin.

Myth No. 2

Antiperspirants can cause cancer:
Answer - NO
This theory is caused by some faked round the internet and has NO scientific evidence nor proof that it has ever caused cancer.
In fact, antiperspirants apart from making you smell good and feel good, it can also inhibit the growth of bacteria around the areas used.

Myth No. 3

Drinking water leads to beautiful skin:
Answer - No scientific evidence
While drinking water is necessary for our body, too much will only result in bloating and many toilet trips. Drinking water helps to cleanse the insides of the body to a certain extent however, and your usual 7 glasses of water will greatly aid your health.

Myth No. 4

Split ends can be repaired:
Answer - No

The only way to rid of split ends is to cut them off and prevent them in the future with good hair care.

Myth No. 5

Shaving your legs will make your hair grow in thicker:
Answer - No (Yaaay!)
You have as many hairs as is genetically determined, regardless of whether you shave them. The only reason why you feel as though you have grown more hair is because your skin isnt used to it.

Myth No. 6

Dry skin causes wrinkles:
Answer - Not really
Most of the wrinkles that human have is due to over-exposure to heat and sun

Myth No. 7

You can wash away acne and pimples:
Answer - In your dreams
Washing too much or scrubbing the pimples WILL ONLY aggrevate the condition and lead to even more outbreaks. In addition, scrubbing the pimples can cause scars which may last for a long time.

Myth No. 8

The sun clears up blemishes:
Answer - Not really
While the sun dries out pimples temporarily, it interferes with healthy skin cells. This can cause a worse breakout a couple days after sun exposure.

Myth No. 9

Stick to one brand and line of products:
Answer - Nah
This beauty myth was probably put out by cosmetic manufacturers who want to keep customers loyal to their brand.

Myth No. 10

You don't need to use sunscreen on a cloudy day:
Answer - Wrong
The sun's UV rays penetrate clouds and can still damage your skin. However, do not overdo it and put concentrated sunscreen all the time. Many sports sunscreen are for constant exposure purposes; if you are not in the sun all the time, you may cause your pores to be clogged instead.
Use a light SPF 6-20 moisturizer or sunscreen
Btw. Sunscreen and sunblock IS the same

Myth No. 11

Naturally made beauty products are non-allergenic:
Answer - Wrong
Whether it's a natural or chemical ingredient, if your allergic to it, you'll see a reaction.

Myth No. 12

Chocolate and greasy foods cause acne:
Answer - 99.99% wrong
No one food has been proven to cause breakouts. If you find a correlation, which is pretty rare, quit eating that particular food. However, sweet and greasy food is bad for your health, and there IS a direct correlation between your body health and your skin health.

Myth No. 13

You can shrink the pores on your face:
Answer - No (awww.. did I hear a groan at the back?)
Your pore size is genetically determined. Pores may appear larger by bacteria and dead skin cells. Retin-A and alpha hydroxys are designed to break up these materials and bring the pores back to their original appearance.
